Scott Russell gave us a short
update on the status of the Sodbusters
Club Field. |
|
Quick Discussions |
-
Cal Branton
advised us that SMMAC of Owatonna
is hosting
Minnesota Jets June 15-16, 2019.
This will be Minnesota’s first Jet
Event! Turbines, ducted fans
and EDF’s are welcome to fly.
More to
come...
-
Zach Geragi &
Phil Schwartz discussed sources
for Paper-Mill Conveyor belt
material vs. Geotextile matting as

Dennis Batty & Tim Brochman Presented
Dennis’ Dornier Do-335 Pfeil ("Arrow")
Electric Twin |
 |
Dennis Batty & Tim Brochman
showed off Dennis’ Do-335 Piel electric
twin. Tim had found the ARF
manufactured in Europe and ordered it
on-line.
On arrival he found it was a plain white
foam model with very poor instructions. |
|
After some engineering
and painting skill they estimated the CG
and positioned the motors and batteries
accordingly.
The first flight was
quick but predictable. It promises to be
a great aircraft once the weather warms
up! |

David P. Andersen on Designing Wing Ribs |
David P. Andersen gave a talk
about designing wing ribs using
Model CAD
Software and a JPEG image of
your chosen airfoil.
Dave explained how
to import a JPEG image of the airfoil
into the software and ‘trace’ it
digitally in Model CAD to give it
dimension and scalability. |
 |
Anyone can create
their own wing design using this
technique! |

Next Meeting
February 22, 2019 ...
See Ya Soon! |
|
Joe Neidermeyr's, Junkers Ju 52 |
 |
Joe Neidermeyer showed his
technique for making lightweight
corrugated scale skins for his 1/10th
scale Junkers JU-52.
As we learned last
month, Joe loves to use this product for
foam imperfections.
Subterrain, a foam putty
(cool stuff -
check-it-out), is a product popular
for working with and repairing scenery in model
railroading.

Roy Carrigan's Feibao MB-339 |
Roy Carrigan showed his Fei Bo
MB-339 jet. He recently purchased
the aircraft complete and has been
performing some updates to the airframe.
The jet has a wingspan of 94 1/2" and a
lenght od 95 3/4" Updates included
navigation and landing lights. |
 |
The
MB-339 weighs 50# wet and is powered by
a Jet Central Rhino 170.
The engine only has 3 hours on it so Roy
is excited about doing a lot of flying
this summer! |

Jeff Quesenberry's 28 Year Old Stab Jig |
Something's just work great in our
Hobby, so why not use'em! Several
years ago Jim Greenly built a bea utiful
Seafury and to assist himself he also
made a jig to ensure that the stab was
straight and true. Jeff
Quesenberry has been using this
hand-me-down for many years, while
employing the numerous wood-working tips
and tricks he learned from Jim.
The jig consists of two 3/4" plywood
glued, screwed and gusseted together at
90 degrees. Jeff uses drywall
screws to hold it down to his bench. |

Pilot Recognition
Contest, Winner Selected! |
 |
Last month I asked
if you recognize
this SFM member and to send in an
entry for the January meeting & a winner
will be drawn from the correct entries!
A winner was
selected from all the correct responses
I received!
Clearly I need to make this harder for
you guys in the future. |
