Aerotech Ki 84, Frank. He opened the cowl
flaps and added a baffle for increased cooling.
ProMark
paint masks and
KlassKote epoxy paint. KlassKote has
Federal Standard paint chips on file for custom mixing—just
specify the FS number. Aileron taping of primer. Soft
edges masked with Lowell’s
SoftEdge foam tape. Scale paint
weathering (Japanese paint tended to flake off) effected by
painting PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) with a tiny brush over
silver base coat, then ripped off with 3M Super Strength
Packaging Tape after spray-painting color, leaving
chipped-like effect. Roy discussed airbrushed markings and
using HVLP spray guns, e.g., much less overspray. Roy gave
away a Craftsman 6” disk sander. |
 |
Eric Malkerson
gave away latex foam and tape hinges. Thanx, Eric.

Wayne Siewert described the construction
of special landing gear struts for his Porsche Mooney project.
Water jet cut parts of steel with bronze bushings. Other parts from
McMaster Car in
Chicago has “everything and anything.” Struts removable in the
field because" If it can go wrong in competition, it will.” Scale
overlapped doors sequenced by using springs of different tension.
Field trials found the need for brakes. |
|
Dave Andersen found an article that showed
the more scientific model builders of the 40's here in Minnesota
were called "Dope Fiends" Checkout his other finds as well you Dope
Fiend. |

 |
|
Bernie Kobilka
described the repair of Spacewalker #14 for Scott Russell.
Damaged when a cell phone fell out of his shirt pocket.
Beautiful Butyrate dope finish of 14 coats. |
 |
Phil Schwartz

hours of excellent still photos and videos. |

Bruce Anthony showed some AF
and AAF books including a 1943 Spotters Guide covered with
German parachute silk. Interesting book does not show
number of guns in a Defiant (classified at the time) and the
outline of a FW 190D was not well known. He is willing to
donate these valuable books to a library if the SFM starts
one. Hmmm. Thanks, Bruce. |
 |
Dave Schwantz did the first
session on 1/13/07 at Crosspoint Church in Bloomington,
France Ave. and 98th St, and covered choosing a kit, tools
and supplies including turbine jet models. Put on by
TCRC. |
