Although I didn't generate a Newsletter in March, we hosted a combined Live Meeting with an internet ZOOM meeting so we could have members join us from a distance.  It went so well we voted to have another meeting at the end of April 2021!

Meeting was called to order at 7 PM by Secretary Scott AndersonCal Branton was detained in Owatonna as it was a fine flying day.

Twenty one (21) members were present with a few logged in on the ZOOM call.

A camera was set up on the stage and the laptop output was connected to a 65” Big Screen so the members could see what the online members were showing.

This was our last meeting of the 2020-2021 building season.

We look forward to seeing you at all the events this summer!

Respectfully, Scott Anderson

Jeff Quesenberry, is making quick progress of the "New" David Andersen Designs, IL-2 Sturmovik.

David P. Andersen gave a presentation on his latest design, a ¼ Scale Kokusai KI-76.  A Japanese Scout Aircraft with a Fieseler FI 156 Storch ‘style’ glass canopy.

John Bombardo is building the prototype. It should be great to see.

Plan Sheet Sample...

Electric aircraft designer Joe Niedermier shared the influences and design changes that made his Beechcraft Staggerwing successful, including his self-designed  retractable landing gear.

Joe is looking to move to the San Francisco bay area this summer and is reducing his fleet of aircraft.

Safe travels Joe, thank you for your years of sharing!

Scott Anderson is looking into getting new Scale Flyers of Minnesota Baseball Caps.

Since Jon Bomers has been sharing all of our acquired knowledge and building talent to the world for almost 20 years ... maybe he'll buy'em.

More details to come ...

Jon Bomers attended the "Warbirds & Classics Over Michigan" event.  About 75 flyers were registered with almost 90 plans.  It was a bit windy the first few days but the weather was prefect!  This event is just outside Lansing, MI.

Just a couple of PIC's from this years event...

This was our last meeting of the 2020-2021 building season.

We look forward to seeing you at all the events this summer!

Respectfully, Scott Anderson – Secretary

Brandon Archer showed his Top Flite Kit Built Giant Scale P-51 that he had recently acquired from an estate.

It came with a DA-50 with a custom Keleo Scale Exhaust and Robart retracts.  He’s looking forward to flying it!

Sherwood Heggen brought in his Bates Curtis P-36 project. Sherwood has been working on this project for 3 years.  It will be powered by a DA-50 and has Sierra Giant Scale retracts.

Sherwood is contemplating what color scheme to use for paint. This may be a 2022 maiden flight.

Jon Bomers could not make the call but hopes that all of you remember the impact that your/our passion for Scale Modeling  has on the young people we speak with and/or get involved in Scale R/C Aircraft!

There's an industry out there that loves individuals who's passion for flight was born out of R/C building and flying. Companies like Lockheed, Boeing, General Atomics Aero Systems and others find these individuals indispensable, even if they don't have an Aeronautical Engineering Degree.

Above is General Atomics MQ-9 that was developed from the MQ-1.  The MQ-1 was a work horse for years and in photos looks very similar but in the real-world the MQ-9 is like a 1/5th scale Andersen Design scaled up to 40%.

There are many drone designs being developed and tested that were born from a Scale Modelers ideas or an individual inspired by an R/C Scale molder just like you!  Have you seen this one?

Ahmed Elbassal's website InfinityRC.com soon will be linked from ours.  He's shared many of his design nuances with us over the years and hope our support can help drive traffic to his site.

David Andersen over the years has developed many articles for major R/C Magazines.  He's written a book which you can download for free (of course) from our website.  Recently I discovered a vintage story I know you'll enjoy!  To read the whole story Just Click Here!
